The Kutztown Komet, Freddy Adam, Honored This Wednesday, 7/25 at Action Track USA
Kutztown, PA (July 22) – Kutztown’s own Freddy Adam, the Kutztown Komet, will be honored this Wednesday night, July 25, at Championship Energy Action Track USA on the Kutztown Fairgrounds. The racing menu will once again include the USAC All Pro SpeedSTRs, the Hyper Racing 600 Sprints, and, for the third time this season, the Junior Slingshots will compete on the progressively banked oval. Of course the All Star Slingshots will also be part of the action, and it’s the Slingshots who will pay homage to Adam as they compete in the Kutztown Komet 100. Every Slingshot driver who enters the event will start the 100-lap main.
Freddy Adam was not just a successful dirt Modified racer, he was also one of the most popular drivers for many years at the Reading Fairgrounds. Counted among his biggest wins was a triumph in the Race of Champions at the formidable Langhorne Speedway in the ‘60’s.
For the sixth consecutive season, his memory will be saluted as the Slingers spray some clay in a 100-lapper, with a mid-race break to allow teams to make adjustments, change tires, etc…and the work takes place on the homestretch, in full view of the fans in the spacious grandstand.
After Briggs Danner, the 17-year-old wheel-twister from Allentown, goes for his third straight win in the SpeedSTR main, and following the always insanely competitive (25-lap) 600 Sprint feature, the All Star Slingshots will battle in the century grind, with Freddy Adam’s widow, Mary, waiting to present the Kutztown Komet trophy to the winner.
Past winners of the 100-lapper include Mark Sensenig (2013), Brett Bieber (2014 & 2015), Henry Anderson (2016), and Seth Spayd (2017).
The Junior Slingshots will kick things off by running the first feature race of the night, right before the younger fans in the crowd compete in Big Wheel races at intermission.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m., with grandstand gates swinging open at 5:00. Warm-ups get underway at 6:00, with qualifying races following the hot lap sessions.
Adult general admission tickets are $14, with Senior Citizens priced at $12. Youth between the ages of six and 12 are just $5, and children under six are free. Pit passes are $25 for members, while non-members are $30.
