Rain Wins at Action Track USA on Sunday; Opener Moves to May 14
Kutztown, PA (May 4)— Sunday’s gloomy forecast came to fruition, and the resulting wet weather forced postponement of the highly anticipated season opener at Action Track USA on the Kutztown Fairgrounds.
Attention now turns to Wednesday, May 14, when engines will fire in anger for the first time in 2025 at Berks County’s #1 Bullring. On the opening night menu are the All Pro SpeedSTRs, the Hyper Racing/EVO Injection 600 Sprints, along with the All Star and Junior Slingshots.
The Goldie & Elton Meitzler Memorial will christen the new season on the 14th, serving as the season opening event as it had for several years. The Meitzler Memorial pays tribute to the family’s matriarch and patriarch, both of whom were instrumental in constructing the clay oval on the fairgrounds in the mid-1990’s. The Meitzler family was involved in promoting and running the speedway until Rich Tobias and Doug Rose took it over and converted the facility into Action Track USA in 2013.
Wednesday, May 14, will also see a special grandstand dedication, as a section of the stands will be re-named in memory of the late Micro Sprint standout, Pete Skias of Wernersville, PA. Pete lost a gallant battle with cancer in 2024, and Action Track USA is proud to dedicate a section of grandstands in his honor.
This will be the tenth running of the Meitzler Memorial; the race was rained out—three times—in 2019 and it was not held in 2020 due to COVID 19.
Tim Buckwalter of Douglassville has enjoyed quite a bit of success in the Memorial, winning the SpeedSTR portion five times while picking up a pair of checkered flags in the 600 Sprint features.
Billy Pauch Jr. captured the 600 Sprint Meitzler Memorial on three occasions (2015, 2018, and 2021). “The Kid’s Kid” does not own a victory in the Memorial for the SpeedSTRs, but his dad was victorious in the 2014 edition of the event.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m., while grandstand gates swing open at 5:00. Warm ups commence at 6:00, with opening ceremonies and qualifying heats immediately following the hot lap sessions.
Adult General Admission is $18, with Senior Citizens enjoying an admission price of $16. Youth between the ages of six and 12 are just $5, and children aged five and under are admitted FREE.
The track is located on the Kutztown Fairgrounds at 144 North Whiteoak Street, Kutztown, PA 19530.
