Mahaney, Eckert win speedSTR features

Illustrating the diversity of the division, New York modified star Mike Mahaney and touring World of Outlaws late model driver Rick Eckert split the speedster twin 30-lap features Wednesday night at JeffreyHogueRealtor.com Action Track USA.

Eckert of York topped the rain-postponed event from May 22; Mahaney – who drives four hours, one-way, from King Ferry, N.Y., to compete at Action Track USA – annexed the regularly scheduled main at the clay oval on the Kutztown Fairgrounds.

Grandview Speedway sportsman racer John Kovatch IV  led the opening laps of the held-over main as Eckert moved forward from his  fifth starting position to run second on just two circuits.

Following a  restart on Lap 7, Eckert ducked inside Kovatch in Turn 2 to take the lead.  Mahaney followed into second a lap later. Meanwhile, Billy Pauch Jr. was on the move from 11th spot. Pauch took third on Lap 14 and cleared Mahaney, whose car began to overheat, on Lap 22, but couldn’t run down Eckert, who took a $2,000 payday. http://readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=481969
